I found this an interesting article. I especially like the first suggestion on what to do if you believe you are being alienated from your child and that is Take It Seriously. I know from my personal experience, that is so true. I had no idea what was happening to my son and I. Before the divorce began, we were together all the time. I was the one that got him up and took him to school almost every day. We played with Lincoln Logs, Hot Wheels or Legos all the time. We put together puzzles and walked the dogs through the neighborhood. When it came time for bed, I read him his nighttime story. We were super close.

But once the separation and divorce began, his mother continued to push to have him not want to have a relationship with me. As I continued to challenge her living arrangements with her new boyfriend to not letting her move out of state, the worse it became for Eryk and I. She started with false claims of physical abuse and then progressed to sexual abuse. These false allegations were so readily believed by the young girl at CPS and she refused to comprehend that she was lying. I was arrested and lost my teaching job because of her false allegations.

It is a real phenomena and many parents and children suffer from it. It really is a form of child abuse and family violence. Eryk was denied a relationship with my side of the family, which hurt my parents and sisters. Over 20,000 families suffer from severe Parental Alienation in the United States. This is not something that happens in America, though. It is a worldwide issue. There is research going on in many countries across Europe and Asia. Ginger Gentile released a documentary on parental alienation titled Erasing Dad that focused on men in Latin American countries.

If you believe that you are being alienated from your child, there are plenty of signs to look for. Some really good ones are listed in the article above. Arm yourself with knowledge. Educate your lawyer and mental health professional to the dangers and reality of Parental Alienation. The research and books being published on this topic is growing. Help defend yourself and protect your child with information that is readily available.
